Southern (Six) Dynasties - (265 - 581)

In the south a succession of dynasties known as the Six Dynasties developed in South China along and below the Yangzi River with most of them holding their capital at Nanjing. The southern regions were ruled by the Eastern Jin dynasty (317-420) which was founded by a member of the Jin imperial family, Sima Rui (Yuandi, 317-322).
